Universal Consciousness, Cosmic Awareness, and Abiding Peace

Let us consider the analogy of the acorn, and the mighty oak tree.

The acorn, discovered by the squirrel, might be thought of as a coherent collection of cosmic particles suitable for nutrition as found in its natural state. It lacks both the volume and mass of an oak tree. Without our experiential knowledge of what may transpire over time when an acorn is buried in the forest, we would have no complete understanding of the acorn's potential from an examination of its matter.

Although scientists now understand that DNA is present in the acorn and serves as the genetic blueprint guiding its growth and development, this knowledge is derived from observational experience. We acknowledge this through the observation of results. Similar molecular components exist elsewhere without a comparable destiny. However, there is something that remains unexplained about the acorn that fosters a certain synergy, leading to the selective accumulation of more molecular components in a specific way over time. The same holds true for an ape, Homo sapiens, a beautiful woman resembling her mother, and a funny-looking man resembling his grandfather.

Scientists may predict future appearances with some measured accuracy from a DNA sample, but without that sample, they could not, today, create the DNA from scratch to reliably achieve that appearance, complete with identical functionality and whatever measure of consciousness nature might endow it with.

Scientists argue that their observations provide a sufficient basis to understand the particular arrangement of molecular components in an acorn, enabling them to reliably predict its potential destiny. While it's understandable that such arrangements evolve in certain ways, we have yet to fully comprehend what it is about that arrangement that will spawn replication and communicate the discriminating growth instructions to the acorn. That it will, we know from observation. Exactly how and why remains somewhat elusive.

Even now, as we explore the potential to clone a human being, we must acknowledge that our understanding is limited to identifying the necessary molecular building blocks and how they should be assembled, coupled with the will and technology to assemble them accordingly. We have yet to understand what causes certain arrangements of these building blocks to assemble themselves in this way, as opposed to another, with consistency unparalleled by science and without the conscious attentiveness of scientists.

Modern science understands a lot. It doesn't well understand all that is relevant to the questions about qualities of life that remain unexplored and unexplained. It does not well understand the answers to questions it lacks the wisdom to perceive a need to ask amidst financial and academic motivation to avoid them. No one yet can credibly argue there is nothing, on the subject of life and consciousness, that we have yet to completely explore and understand, even if they are entirely convinced, that we will, one day.

Great sages of eastern philosophy, some of whom are also brilliant scientists, have argued that certain aspects of the realities of life and universal consciousness cannot be apprehended, but by personal experience. And so say the Vedas (Ancient Eastern Scriptures).

Just as scientific observations reliably contribute to our understanding of the structure and functions of DNA, many argue that cosmic observations reveal a manifest orderliness in the universe. This orderliness, whose genesis remains unknown to us, suggests a form of cosmic interconnectedness or consistency that still transcends our complete understanding. Orderliness implies a perceivable structure. It can be argued that this consistency suggests forms of atomic and molecular perception that hint at a cosmic awareness, even if sometimes only manifested through subatomic, biochemical, or other forms of attraction or consistencies of matter in perceivable patterns.

Such "cosmic awareness", though open to interpretation, is an undeniable reality even if we disagree on what to call it. While various names such as universal consciousness, a greater power, God, Brahman, Ohm or Allah may be assigned to it, its existence, regardless of nomenclature, cannot be dismissed or ignored. Whatever it may be called, we attest to the significance of this reality as it relates to wellness.

The great sages of eastern philosophy prescribe paths to commune with this "universal consciousness" or greater power or life force through meditation, and consistently declare that the spiritual equilibrium achieved through such communion amplifies and heals the spirit, enlightens the mind, invigorates the body and fills the soul with abiding peace that displaces fear, anxiety, anger and unhealthy ego attachments that contribute to self-delusional self-justification. I subscribe to this claim, based on personal experience, albeit limited, that is sufficient to know.

This is the point of Kundalini Yoga. This is the object of meditation. However, prerequisite understanding and preparation is necessary for success.
